Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Services
Many adults struggle every day with feelings of sadness, depression and anxiety that go unchecked. When those feelings begin to cause disruptions in your life, interfering with work and causing the break down of your relationships, it’s time to seek help. West Hills Behavioral Health Hospital, located in Reno, Nevada, is here to provide acute inpatient care for adults and seniors.
The acute inpatient psychiatric services at West Hills Behavioral Health Hospital offer support and guidance for adults struggling with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues. Our inpatient mental health hospital offers a number of adult inpatient services that can help with personality issues, trauma, grief, substance use disorders and more.
For adults struggling with alcohol and drug abuse in their lives, we offer inpatient substance abuse treatment. For adults who are facing mental health issues alongside an addiction, dual diagnosis programs are available for patients with a secondary substance abuse diagnosis (also called a co-occurring disorder).
Acute inpatient hospitalization is the most intensive level of care offered at West Hills Behavioral Health Hospital, providing 24-hour skilled nursing observation, daily interventions, oversight by a psychiatrist, and intensive, highly coordinated treatment by a physician-led team of mental health professionals for patients with severe psychiatric disorders.
Inpatient hospitalization is always short-term and designed to quickly stabilize the most serious symptoms to allow a quick transition to less intensive levels of care.
Advantages of acute inpatient mental health services and treatment:
- Controlled, structured environment
- 24-hour skilled nursing care
- Physician-led multidisciplinary treatment team
- Full schedule of group psychotherapy and psychoeducation
- Both medication and psychotherapy, as appropriate
- Occupational therapy including music, movement and relaxation
- Medically supervised detoxification for alcohol and drugs
- Indoor and outdoor supervised recreation including personal time breaks
Aftercare and Discharge
Aftercare and discharge planning are crucial to success after the program is over. Some patients will be able to transition directly into more traditional therapy appointments with other northern Nevada adult mental health providers. For others, there will need to be more frequency and structure around their outpatient treatment.
For those patients, we recommended stepping into our Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). These outpatient treatment programs provide a transition back into normal life for patients who’ve just finished an inpatient drug rehab program, medical detox, or an inpatient psychiatric treatment program.
Patients utilizing our outpatient services will continue to work on recovery from mental illness or substance abuse problems while still being able to live at home. Our treatment center offers a place to practice social skills and coping mechanisms in therapy.
Family participation is vital to the recovery process, and we work closely with family and loved ones to keep them informed of progress throughout treatment. We also rely on loved ones to help our patients practice learned skills at home. They become partners in treatment and help with discharge and aftercare planning where possible. It may seem overwhelming at first, but our team is here to help from assessment to discharge.
